while i understand your point, i’m personally far more likely to throw a badge (http://www.w3junkies.com/toocool/) on a site than waste time with browser hacks. standards compliant, beyond which it’s someone else’s problem.

Most websites still unfortunately have to be able to work well from various incarnations of IE. It’s important to install IE in wine or otherwise to do that part of testing.

I also find a lot of the browser tools handy for debugging. I use Chrome and Firefox with the developer tools to examine CSS and layouts of websites that I like an element of.

While it’s not developer specific, I also use QuickSynergy to share my mouse and keyboard with other desktops. This can work great if running a Windows or Mac OS in addition to the Linux.

I think there are subtle differences in this modern age.. Most developers are now finding a need to do at least some basic design and designers are starting to work with more complex systems such as WordPress which requires some programming knowledge to really customize it.

There are now ways of creating A Records for mail.domain.com in the domain control panel that will properly lead the user to the right location.
